Week 30 – This week we were very excited to welcome Cris back to do what he does best – knocking holes in walls! So far living here the back garden has been rather neglected as in order to get to it we have to go around the side of the house up a steep incline, so when permission was granted to change a window, one of only 2 at the back of the house, into a door we were very keen to get started. Cris made very light work of it and had the most part completed in just one day – even if it was a tad draughty! He was aided by the fact I was out all day and not doing my nanny worrying that the roof was going to cave in! The stone he removed was very crumbly, It makes you wonder how the place has survived as long as it has if that is what it is built of. ┬áHe came back the following day and filled the surround with brick and concrete, It needs some cosmetics but it has made a world of difference to be able to let the dog out without fear of her getting squashed by a passing tractor or chasing the cats to the farm. As we were keen to sit out the back we began the patio planning and in a moment of contemplation Mike spotted a tree we hadn’t seen before, it turns out it is a quince. Very exciting for us cheese lovers!

More to come from the back garden next week…
